airports that claim to have free wifi but really they don’t
On the ferry to Dublin!
I don’t know where we are. And strangely, it’s okay. We are in the north of England, in the Lakes District…you know, where the well-off families went for the summers back in the good old days. We are at a beautiful old Red Lion hotel, and it has WIFI. Incredible.
I come home in 4 days. Also incredible.
We are spending the next 4 days touring a bit of the north of England, then Wales, then we take the ferry to Ireland. We spent today and yesterday in Scotland, and I wish we would have had more time. I love Scotland. It’s beautiful, and the people are beautiful, and it’s just wonderful. Loved it.
I AM quite eager to get home, though. I miss America. Didn’t think I would, but I do. And I miss my family, of course. And real school. And Harding, and my family there. And driving…I miss my car. And my piano. And Missouri. And Colorado. And my dog. And my church family.
I’m one blessed chick, having all these wonderful things to miss.
And another thing..I’m going to be running a half marathon in March. Start praying for me now, folks. :)
Hey! Haven’t blogged in a while. Sorry, folks..and by ‘folks’ I mean my mother and grandparents and several of my friends…does anyone else actually read this?
Today is a special day here in the UK. It’s November the 5th. Guy Fawkes Night. Bonfire Night. As Lauren put it, “it’s like the combination of the 4th of July and Halloween.” We started celebrating last night by watching V for Vendetta, which I had never seen before and can honestly say that it is now one of my favorite movies, because HUGO WEAVING. I already loved the man, but after this movie, I loved him even more. What a talent.
We’ll be celebrating by going to a bonfire/fireworks show. These events are being held all around the city, and besides the bonfire and fireworks, there are carnival-esq booths (or “stalls”) and food and stuff. It should be a fun night.
Well, we have 6 days of classes left, I think. 6 or 7. That’s insane. I have a lot to do. I’m giving a presentation on “Shakespeare” with Victoria for humanties class, and that’ll be fun, but we need to make it interesting and fun and not a bunch of stuff that everyone already knows. Then I’m giving a speech/presentation on an aspect of British culture, and I’ve chosen the London Underground. Did you know that some ancient ancestor of the current underground system was started over 100 years ago? That’s crazy. It’ll be an interesting project.
Tomorrow, I get to register for classes!! It’ll be a great/crazy/busy/stressful/full/fun semester, just like I like it. I’m taking: Choir, Tech, Design, Musical Theatre Performance, Vocal Performance, World Lit, Comp I, Radio Prac, and Bible. I think that’s everything. It’ll be crazy. I’m insane. But I can’t wait.
That’s all for now, I guess. Love you all! Watch V for Vendetta tonight. Blow something up. Burn an effigy. Celebrate.
